Modern agriculture and technology have transformed the way we cultivate the land. Israel is living proof and remains a champion of this activity.

Israland invites you to discover a well-known YouTube channel in the agricultural world of our beautiful country: Israël Agriculture Technology.

The water revolution:

The micro-irrigation known as “drip irrigation” was developed by Israelis Simcha Blass and his son Yeshayahu. Implemented in 1959 at the Hatzerim kibbutz. The concept remains simple, water is released not through tiny holes, easily clogged by particles, but through large openings inside a plastic emitter. To limit the flow of water, the patent uses friction. This irrigation revolution led these inventors to create the startup Netafim.

The goal is to provide the perfect amount of water and nutrients directly to the roots of each plant, rather than to the soil. Thus, you grow bigger, better yields each season – with fewer resources.

The proven method was exported as early as the late sixties to Australia, North America, and South America. Since then, Israel has developed ingenious systems such as wastewater treatment and the development of soilless cultivation. This irrigation process requires a small amount of well-distributed water. It should be noted that the country has low rainfall and very few water resources.

Professor Nahum Kedar and modern agriculture.

Born in Vienna in 1920, Nahum Kedar studied agriculture in Denmark during World War II, managed to escape the Nazis’ clutches in 1943, and took refuge in Sweden.

A specialist in plant diseases, he immigrated to Israel in 1950 and worked at the Weizmann Center in Rehovot. Inspired by the environment, he created new vegetable species. The most famous are the golden tomatoes and tiny tomatoes known worldwide as cherry tomatoes. Today they are known and exported all over the world.

From the creation of the cherry tomato by Professor Nahum Kedar, inventor of the small cherry tomato. The seeds produced in Israel are now sold worldwide. Israel owes its progress in the agricultural world to the knowledge accumulated, particularly due to its technology, the ingenuity of its engineers, and its farmers.

In conclusion, we can say: This is how in the Negev, despite extreme environmental conditions, Israel produces olives, grapes, strawberries, cucumbers, and flowers…
