The new Arab city in the north is on its way!

The new Arab city in the north is about to be born: the plan proposed by the Ministry of Housing to build a new neighborhood with 8,000 housing units in the local council of Jadida Makar, in Western Galilee, has been submitted for public objections. With a plan approved by the Israeli Land Authority, 14,600 housing units will be built in the neighborhood, making the council a new Arab city. The first significant population of the neighborhood is expected by 2023.

Jadida-Makhar is located east of Akko and west of Route 70. The city currently has 24,000 residents, spread across approximately 4,500 housing units. As part of this plan, a new neighborhood will be created, called Tantur Hills, to the south of the old neighborhoods of Jadida-Makar, north of Route 85 and east of Route 6. The plan covers an area of approximately 380,000 square meters and includes buildings with a maximum height of seven stories, with mixed residential, commercial, and professional uses on the main streets, as well as a new employment and commercial area covering about 3,000 dunams to the north of the neighborhood.

According to the plan, the new neighborhood will be constructed in the form of a network of streets and the residential buildings will be primarily based on the model of an open urban block, namely open spaces and public buildings. In addition, the plan includes comprehensive infrastructure including water, electricity, and sewage, the paving of hiking trails and bike paths, as well as the construction of an urban park in the northern part of the plan.

The Ministry of Housing indicated that the preparation of the plan included numerous planning works to properly utilize the topographical structure of the area for residential purposes and to allow for the infiltration of the carpenter from the built-up areas.

The plan has been approved for publication in accordance with the Cabinet’s decision to provide solutions for the planning and development of quality urban housing solutions for the Arab sector in the north of the country. It has been promoted in coordination and cooperation with the ILA plan for the East Tantur neighborhood and in coordination with the overall plan for the settlement, promoted by the planning director.

Approved for objection submission six months ago by the committee for the promotion of privileged housing complexes, but only now are the objections being submitted for 60 days, after which the plan should resume discussion of the confrontations and obtain its approval.
