The Central Bureau of Statistics has published a new report indicating that the population of the State of Israel has reached 8.9 million inhabitants.
This figure represents an increase of 1.9%, or 162,000 more people compared to previous data, and is attributed to the natural growth of the population. Over the past year, there were 175,000 births against 43,000 deaths, as well as an influx of 25,000 new immigrants.
This trend is comparable to the demographic growth rate of recent years, and according to the Israeli Bureau of Statistics, the population in Israel is expected to reach 10 million inhabitants by 2024.
In Israel, the Jewish population represents 74.4% of the total population of the country, or 6.25 million people.
20.9% of the population, or 1.86 million inhabitants, are Arabs, while the 418,000 citizens belong to minorities such as the Bedouins.
89% of Israelis “satisfied with their lives”
The Israeli Bureau of Statistics also looked into the religious identity of the citizens of the Hebrew State, where 44% of people identify as secular. 21% identify as traditionalists, 12% as religiously inclined traditionalists, 11.5% as religious, and 10.2% as ultra-Orthodox.
89% of Israelis say they are generally satisfied with their lives, and 63% of respondents indicate they are satisfied with their financial situation. However, 31% of the population regret having difficulties covering their expenses.
According to this data, Israel continues to maintain one of the highest statistics in the world regarding average life expectancy, with 84.6 years for women and 80.7 years for men.
On average, an Israeli woman gives birth to 3.11 children; a figure that continues to place Israel among the countries of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) with one of the highest fertility rates.
